Veterinary marketing where emergency and wellness stop sharing a budget

A 2am emergency and a routine wellness visit are different buyers, different urgency and different economics. Merged into one account, the urgent searches subsidise the routine ones and you cannot see which part of the spend is actually building the practice.

The Problem

Where veterinary accounts leak money

Consolidation has raised the click prices, which makes each of these more expensive than it was.

Emergency and wellness in one campaign

Completely different urgency, completely different conversion behaviour. Bid together, the emergency terms carry the account and the wellness terms never get properly funded.

Valuing a client at one appointment

A pet is worth years of wellness visits, dental work, diagnostics and eventually something serious. Bidding against the first visit puts most competitive searches out of reach for no reason.

Competing with corporate groups on generic terms

Consolidated groups bid with portfolio budgets and longer payback horizons. An independent practice matching them on the broad terms is fighting where the budget gap is widest and the differentiation is thinnest.

Silence on price for routine services

Pet owners compare routine and wellness pricing. Practices that publish nothing get compared anyway, on somebody else's framing.

What You Get

What a veterinary engagement includes

Structured around urgency, lifetime value and the reality of competing with consolidated groups.

Emergency and wellness split properly

Distinct campaigns, bids, ad scheduling and pages, so urgent work and planned work are each funded and judged on their own terms.

Lifetime value in the bid

Targets built from what a client is worth across years of care rather than the price of a first appointment.

Specificity against portfolio budgets

Campaigns built around the services and species where you are genuinely differentiated, rather than head-to-head on the terms consolidated groups can always outspend.

Call tracking down to keyword and outcome

Which search produced the call, and whether it became a booked and attended appointment.

Campaign landing pages

Pages that answer urgency fast for emergency traffic and build trust slowly for wellness, which means they cannot be the same page. Fixed scope, tied to the campaigns.

Reporting by service type

Emergency, wellness, dental and diagnostics reported separately, so you can see which part of the practice the spend is actually filling.

Local Services Ads and the map pack matter a great deal here, and are measured separately from standard search so you can see which one produces appointments.

Proof

Where the healthcare experience comes from

I would rather describe a real engagement honestly than invent a case study with invented numbers. The healthcare work below is an ongoing senior role, so I can speak to scope, scale and approach, but not to a client logo or exact percentages.

Large Healthcare Organization, Brazil

Ongoing · name withheld under confidentiality
Google Ads Meta Ads LinkedIn Ads Multi-Million $ Annual Budget

Ongoing role as Senior Paid Media Manager, leading strategy and a growing paid media team across multiple service lines, in an industry where every claim in an ad is subject to medical advertising rules and clinical review.

Different industry, included because the numbers are public and verifiable. Roughly $20K per month in Google Ads spend, in a market with $45 to $80 CPCs.

How It Works

How it runs

1

Audit

I go through the account, the tracking and the patient journey and tell you what is actually broken. You get the findings whether or not we work together.

2

Fix the foundation

Tracking, conversion actions and structure get corrected first. Optimising on top of bad data just makes you confidently wrong.

3

Build and launch

Campaigns, ad copy, audiences and landing pages built around how patients actually search, and around what your compliance rules allow.

4

Iterate

Weekly optimisation against booked appointments rather than form fills, with a monthly written read on what moved and what is next.

FAQ

Veterinary questions

Emergency or wellness, where should the budget go?

They behave completely differently and should never share a campaign. Emergency searches are urgent, expensive and convert immediately. Wellness and routine care are planned, cheaper and build the recurring base. Merged, the urgent traffic quietly subsidises the routine and neither is optimised.

What is a client worth to a veterinary practice?

A pet, across years, not a visit. Between wellness visits, dental work, diagnostics and the eventual serious episode, a single new client is worth a large multiple of the first appointment. Very few accounts are bid on that basis.

Corporate groups are buying up practices in our area. Does that change anything?

It raises the click prices, because consolidated groups bid with a portfolio budget and a longer payback horizon than an independent practice can. It also makes specificity more valuable, since a local independent competing on the generic terms is competing where the budget gap hurts most.

Should we advertise prices?

For routine and wellness services, usually yes, because pet owners increasingly compare and the practices that stay silent get compared anyway on someone else's terms. For emergency work it matters far less, because urgency dominates the decision.
